What it does

Both LearnDash certificate add-ons in one purchase, for less than buying them separately. Certificate Expiry gives each student's certificate its own expiry date, reminders and a public verification page. Certificate Renewal lets students renew it themselves. One licence key activates both on the same site.

Per-student expiry and reminders

Each certificate expires a set time after the student completes the course, with automatic reminder emails that you can edit.

Self-service recertification

Students renew by retaking a short quiz, following a signed renewal link, or paying for a renewal product.

Public verification

Every certificate gets a verification page and a QR code that employers can check.

Two plugins, one key

One licence key activates and updates both Certificate Expiry and Certificate Renewal on your site.

The problem

LearnDash certificates don’t expire. Once a student finishes a course, the certificate is valid forever, which is a real problem for training that has to be renewed: first aid, food hygiene, safety inductions, CPD. Most training sites we looked at track it in a spreadsheet, with calendar reminders and emails sent one by one.

Adding expiry dates solves half of it. The reminder then prompts the obvious question, “how do I renew?”, and without an answer in the email it becomes a support ticket that someone on your team answers by hand. The two add-ons in this bundle cover both halves.

Why buy them together

Expiry creates the job that Renewal finishes. Once certificates expire, students need a way to renew without emailing you. With both installed, the reminder a student gets 60 days before expiry carries a signed link that takes them straight to their renewal: the course, a short recertification quiz, or checkout.

What you get

Setting it up

  1. Install and activate Certificate Expiry first, then Certificate Renewal. Renewal needs Expiry to be active.
  2. Enter the same licence key on each plugin’s licence screen.
  3. Set the validity period on the certificate, then on each course choose the certificate, the reminder schedule and the renewal mode.
  4. Complete the course as a test student and check the result on the Certifications screen.

Limits worth knowing

Everything listed under “What it doesn’t do” on the two product pages applies here too. The main ones: expiry works at course level only, the QR code needs one shortcode in your certificate template, and paid renewals need the student to be logged in at checkout.

### License & updates
* Multisite: one license covers the whole network, and each subsite running the plugin counts
as one site against the license's site limit (1, 3, 5, or unlimited). The license is stored
network-wide and only a network (super) admin can activate or deactivate it.
* Adding a subsite, or activating the plugin on one, takes an activation automatically; deactivating
the plugin on a subsite or deleting the subsite frees it again. Updates are only offered while
every subsite running the plugin is activated.

It runs alongside LearnDash and never changes its files, so you can keep updating LearnDash as usual.

Frequently asked questions

What is included?

Both plugin ZIPs: LearnDash Certificate Expiry and LearnDash Certificate Renewal. You install both, then enter the same licence key in each.

Which one do I install first?

Certificate Expiry. Renewal checks that Expiry is active and stays inactive until it is.

Can I use the two plugins on different sites?

No. The bundle key covers both plugins on the same sites. A 3-site bundle key, for example, runs both plugins on up to three sites.

I already own Certificate Expiry. Do I need the bundle?

No. Buy Certificate Renewal on its own and keep your existing Expiry licence.

Is WooCommerce required?

No. You only need WooCommerce to charge for a certificate or its renewal. Without it, course and quiz renewals still work, and an admin can approve and renew certificates by hand from the Certifications screen.

What about students who finished before I installed it?

They aren't picked up automatically. Grant their certifications from the Certifications screen, where you can also set or extend each expiry date by hand.

Do students need an account to renew?

Yes. Renewal links are tied to a student's user account, and paid renewals are matched to the logged-in customer on the order.

What does the licence include?

One licence key for 1, 3, 5 or unlimited sites, whichever you pick at checkout, valid for a year. Every licence has every feature, plus all updates and support for that year. If you don't renew, the plugin keeps working but stops receiving updates.

Is there a refund policy?

Yes. Email support@pluginsprout.com within 14 days of buying, from the address you bought with, and we refund the full amount.
